Innovative Technology
Direction of Chain Travel, Narrow end forward vs Wide end forward as the sprocket rotates, the front of the tooth picks up on the back of the barrel. The barrel seats down on the sprocket root and as the next link enters on to the sprocket the side bar drops down, rotating the barrel on the sprocket tooth face. This scrubbing rotation causes the wear on the teeth. The hooked teeth prevent the chain from releasing cleanly from the sprocket. The hooked sprocket also causes rapid chain wear and can cause the chain to break prematurely. Wide end forward, this is the same chain with the barrel welded in the opposite direction (Reveresed Barrel) and running wide end forward. The barrel lays down onto the sprocket can and the next link drops down. The rotation takes place in the ID of the barrel and on the OD of the Pin. The barrel does not rotate on the sprocket tooth. There is no scrubbing action on the tooth which means minimum amount of tooth wear. The sprocket teeth stay in very good condition. Operating chain wide end forward in all applications will aid in achieving maximum operating life for chains and sprockets.
